Applications Scientist

Michael Yitayew is an Application Scientist at Mightex Systems. As a member of the Bioscience team, he is involved in customer support, product development, sales, and marketing. With over 8 years of experience in biomedical research, Michael brings expertise in cell biology and materials science applications across Mightex’s product portfolio. He is passionate about advanced imaging technologies and dedicated to providing solutions that support scientists in achieving their research goals.

Michael was born in Ethiopia and grew up on the East Coast of Canada, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of New Brunswick. He later moved to Montreal to complete his master’s and PhD in Biomedical Engineering at McGill University. His research focused on biomaterials and their application in cell therapy for the treatment of type 1 diabetes, building a strong foundation in material characterization, cell culture, and in vivo transplant studies using various microscopy (confocal, fluorescence, 3D organoid imaging) and spectroscopy techniques.
