Infinity Port Expanders
IPX & MPI

Mightex’s Infinity Port Expanders enable researchers to increase the number of individual input devices to their microscope infinity light path. The Infinity Port Expander (IPX) can accept patterned illuminators, such as the Polygon Pattern Illuminator , widefield illuminators, TIRF and laser/confocal scanners devices to maximize versatility of a microscope system.

The IPX and Multi-Port Illuminator (MPI) can be used in any commercial inverted or upright microscope (e.g. Leica, Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss), or on Mightex’s OASIS Macro/Micro/Implant systems.

Infinity Port Expander (IPX)

Maximizing Patterned Illumination and Widefield Imaging Capabilities

Infinity Path Expander (IPX)

IPX connecting a Polygon to the backport of an inverted microscope.

Features
  • Up to four (4) port access to infinity path:
    • Expands an infinity-path port on a microscope into a maximum of 4 ports.
  • Accept any infinity-path compatible devices:
    • Compatible with all Mightex Polygon models
    • Compatible with Mightex and 3rd party widefield epi-fluorescent illumination sources via standard 3mm core, 5mm liquid lightguide
    • Also supports cameras and laser scanners via appropriate adaptors
  • FOV centering capabilities:
    • Ports 2, 3 and 4 feature pitch-yaw adjustable dichroic holders for centering FOV
  • Versatile configurations:
    • Ports 2, 3 and 4 can be mounted on either sides of the main IPX chassis, to avoid mechanical conflict with surrounding environment
      • Corresponding dichroic holders mounted on opposite sides.
    • Standard-size dichroic in interchangeable filter cube
      • Optional excitation filters can be installed in filter cube.
    • Front tube fits in our existing microscope and 3PS adaptors

Application Examples
  • Inverted Microscope:
    • In cases where the back port is already occupied by a traditional epi-fluorescence illuminator. The IPX provides a solution for customers who want to expand their existing imaging capabilities.
  • Upright Microscope:
    • In cases where an upright microscope is not equipped with epi-fluorescence illuminator the IPX can be used to provide widefield and patterned illumination capabilities onto the microscope. The IPX can provide flexible capabilities including addition of TIRF and confocal imaging.
  • OASIS Macro/Micro/Implant:
    • IPX provides significant flexibility in system configuration.

Multi-Port Illuminator (MPI)

Combining Widefield and Patterned Illumination

Multi-port illuminator (MPI)

System-level drawing of a Polygon and widefield light source connected to the backport of an inverted microscope via MPI.

Features
  • Combine widefield and patterned illumination:
    • One port accepts a standard 3mm-core liquid lightguide to produce wide-field illumination
    • The other port accepts Polygon to produce patterned illumination
    • Compatible with DSI-K2-000*; DSI-K3-000*; DSI-E**; DSI-G**
    • Standard front tube should be removed from Polygon before inserting Polygon into MPI.
* Compatible with DSI-K2-000 and DSI-K3-000 with standard 1x field of view. Not compatible with larger 2x FOV option.
** Older infinity-path Polygon models needs to be converted to C-mount version first.
NB.  The MPI is not currently compatible with DSI-D, DSI-DL, DSI-K2-L00-2X, and DSI-K3-L00-2X
Application Examples
  • Inverted Microscope:
    • In cases where the back port is already occupied by a traditional epi-fluorescence illuminator, the MPI allows addition of patterned illumination.
  • Upright Microscope:
    • In cases where an upright microscope is not equipped with epi-fluorescence illuminator. MPI allows for both widefield and patterned illumination.
  • OASIS Macro/Micro/Implant:
    • MPI provides additional flexibility in system configuration.
